Cette famille remonte à Etienne Boyer, surnommé le capitaine, connu par ses exploits militaires pendant la Ligue, et qui fut anobli le 16 janvier 1514, elle a fourni un grand nombre d'hommes distingués, entr'autres Baptiste de Boyer d'Eguilles, conseiller au parlement de Provence en 1675, fils, petit-fils et arrière-petit-fils de conseillers au même parlement. Pierre-Jean Boyer d'Eguilles, marquis d'Argens, fils du précédent, aussi conseiller, père d'un président à mortier et du marquis d'Argens, chambellan du roi de Prusse, si connu par le nombre et l'originalité de ses ouvrages. Un Boyer d'Eguilles, fut nommé président de la Cour des comptes de Provence en 1781. M. Boyer d'Eguilles, assista à l'assemblée des États-généraux tenue en 1787. Parmi les représentants actuels on trouve: Louis Boyer, marquis d'Eguilles; Pierre-Valérien-Octave Boyer d'Eguilles, veuf de dame Augustine-Blanche de Pluyette, marié le 10 juin 1857 à Marie-Joséphine-Emilie Diouloufet. La distinction familiale représentée ici sous forme de blason, survit à travers les siècles grâce à des précieux témoignages qui nous ont permis de rapporter les exploits et les gestes de cette noble famille.
